2006-09-10 [..oops..]: I think also has to do with the exposure that a parent puts their child through as well. The first bad thing I learned about drugs was from the DARE program and well, I had already been exposed to drugs. My parents and siblings were a bit into the drug scene when I was younger so I always thought it was okay....until I tried some and well, let's just say that now I am a parent myself and I have already been like, drugs are bad!!!! NO NO NO!!!! And well, she's only 5. LOL. I am really just like, open with her, though because I want her to be able to know everything like I wanted to when I was little. I think it's mainly about any exposure that kids get growing up and whether or not parents do reinforce the good rather than acting out the bad. There's a joke that goes like this: A little boy walked in on his mommy and daddy having sex. The mother quickly got dressed and ran out to try to explain it to her kid. He asked her "Mommy, why were you ontop of daddy?" The mother's reply was "Well honey, your daddy has a very big tummy and sometimes, I get lay ontop of it and bounce to try to get it smaller.  The little boy looked at her and simply said "You're wasting your time because everytime you go shopping, the lady next door comes over and blows it back up."
Now I mean, let's say that that was a real life situation.... a little boy witnessing his mother having sex with his father AND his father having an affair with the next door neighbour, not to mention that he saw his father receiving head. That kind of stuff shouldn't be discovered by any child until at least 15....if not older! Because yes, sometimes sexual things are found out on accident but otherwise, parents should be upfront with their kids when they are OLD enough enough....not when they are 4 or 5!
